The Solutions Foundation Joins Efforts to Target Pill Mills

In 2006, Nevada consumed enough hydrocodone to equal 48 pills for every man, woman, and child in the state—nearly doubling the national average. Nevada faces a more arduous task in combating the prescription drug abuse issue than most states, as Nevada has been labeled the number one per capita user of hydrocodone in recent years. If our community was to channel its efforts toward the expansion and improvement of Nevada’s prescriptions drug monitoring programs, the prevalence of pill mills and doctor shopping would in turn be lessened and therefore, Nevada would likely see a significant decline in prescription drug abuse.

  • On April 19th, 2011 the Obama Administration released a federal action plan to address the growing problem of prescription drug abuse.
  • On April 20th, 2011the Solutions Foundation sent a letter to the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners seeking ways in which they could work together towards a goal of an interstate monitoring system for prescriptions.
  • On October 25th, 2011 the cover story for USA Today brought the prescription drug abuse epidemic to light for the nation. The newspaper highlighted a new law that seeks to track bulk purchases of narcotics through scam pain clinics.

Solutions Foundation recognizes the devastating epidemic of prescription drug abuse in our community and nation as a whole. We hope to continue our efforts in Clark County with the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners in conjunction with Obama’s national proposal to help eliminate this growing problem.

About Solutions Foundation The Solutions Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides awareness, education and treatment to members of the community regarding the number one health problem in Nevada: alcohol and drug abuse. This epidemic affects our children, family units on a whole and the community at large. The goal of the foundation is to reduce the number of first time drug users in the community and to provide a resource for those individuals who are currently struggling with addiction to find help.
